It is a genuine privilege to serve as Headteacher of Grange C of E Primary School, a place that has shaped who I am and continues to inspire me every day. Having been part of this school community for many years, I know first-hand how dreams can grow from humble beginnings into real opportunities. Over the past year, it has been a joy to lead our school and witness our children flourish, demonstrating that with dedication, encouragement and support, anything is possible.
Our school is set in a beautiful location above the town of Grange-over-Sands, with breathtaking views across Morecambe Bay and expansive grounds where children can explore, play and connect with the outdoors. We are fortunate to be surrounded by the local fells and natural spaces that inspire adventure, learning and a deep appreciation of God's creation.
As a proud Church of England school within the Diocese of Carlisle, our Christian vision underpins everything we do. Family, community and connection are at the heart of school life. We value our strong partnership with St Paul's Church, our close links with the wider Grange community, and our collaboration with schools across the Cartmel Peninsula Local Schools Partnership. Together, we strive to create a welcoming and nurturing environment where every child is known, valued and encouraged to achieve their very best.
This year has been an exciting and successful one for our school. We were delighted to achieve the Platinum OPAL Play Award, recognising our commitment to providing exceptional play opportunities that support children's wellbeing, creativity and development. We have also successfully secured funding through the School-Based Nursery Capital Grant, enabling us to further strengthen our Early Years provision. Looking ahead, we are excited about our plans to extend our EYFS offer to include two-year-olds, while also enhancing our capacity to provide high-quality wraparound care for families in our community.

Grange C of E Nursery
We offer a nurturing start to your child’s educational journey in our school-based nursery, where learning through play sparks curiosity, builds confidence and fosters a lifelong love of learning. Children can currently join us from the term after their third birthday, with 15 and 30-hour places available (subject to availability). Following our successful School-Based Nursery Grant bid, we are excited to be developing our Early Years provision further, with plans to welcome two-year-olds and expand our wraparound care offer. We also work closely with local childminders and pre-schools to ensure a smooth and positive transition into school life.

Reception Class
Children move smoothly from our Nursery 'ducklings' (Shelduck) to Reception (Curlew), with shared spaces and familiar staff supporting a confident transition. Reception shares a large outdoor covered area and outdoor playground space with the nursery children. They have access to our lovely grounds and enjoy learning in and outdoors. New starters are invited to transition sessions to meet their teacher and explore the classroom.
Key Stage 1
Our Year 1 (Sanderling) and Year 2 (Lapwing) classes build on the strong foundations laid in the Early Years, helping children to grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity. Learning continues to be hands-on and engaging, with consistent approaches to phonics, reading, and maths ensuring smooth progression for every child. Alongside core subjects, children enjoy a broad and creative curriculum, including art, music, PE, and outdoor learning in our beautiful school grounds.
Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 includes four classes:
- Year 3 – Eider
- Year 4 – Dunlin
- Year 5 – Harrier
- Year 6 – Peregrine
In these classes, children continue to build on the strong foundations established in Key Stage 1, developing greater independence, resilience, and responsibility for their learning. They follow a carefully sequenced maths scheme and continue to strengthen their English skills through a rich and varied curriculum.
Learning remains exciting and purposeful, with opportunities to explore topics in depth through subjects such as science, history, geography, and the arts. Pupils also benefit from a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom — from outdoor learning and sporting events to trips and residentials — helping them grow in confidence and prepare for the next stage of their education.
Our Wider World
At Grange C of E Primary School, we believe it’s important for children to understand the role they play in both their local community and the wider world. Guided by our core values of love, hope, and trust, we encourage pupils to think beyond themselves and consider how their actions impact others and the planet.
We explore global themes such as Fairtrade, the UN Rights of the Child, and the Sustainable Development Goals, helping children develop empathy and a sense of responsibility. Climate action is a key part of our learning, and we teach children about environmental stewardship and how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.
We also have close links with Nepal, giving pupils a meaningful insight into life in another part of the world and helping them appreciate different cultures and perspectives.
